An interesting game. I was very impressed with the two new Brazilians. Thought the bald one, Marques, was man of the match. The other, Valci, missed a total sitter first half, but he gave the defenders plenty of problems all night and made up for his miss by grabbing the third goal.
As with the Saraburi game, I don't think the final scoreline is a fair reflection of the game, but if you don't take your chances and give away soft goals then that's what you can expect. We're still a side transformed compared with earlier in the season. Last night, we even had central defender Claude pushing up and joining in with attacks. He wouldn't have left the centre circle under the previous coach.
I can't not mention the Pattalung goalkeeper incident. I was sitting in the south-east corner and had a perfect view of it all. Our striker (can't remember if it was Prompong or Anon - I think Prompong) was getting his shirt pulled by a Pattalung defender. Definite free kick which the referee duly awarded. The Pattalung goalkeeper, already on a yellow card, reacts with bizarre fury to this perfectly reasonable decision by running out of his penalty area and remonstrating with the referee. His protests culminate in picking up the ball and booting it into the main stand (yes, an adult actually did this!). The referee, under the laws of the game, has absolutely no choice but to issue a second yellow; any referee in the world would have made the same decision. The loony keeper, outraged by another correct decision, leads an infamous walk off (the fourth I've now seen at Korat) by leaving the pitch and dragging his teammates with him. We then had the usual pitchside discussions when a football match should have been in progress. Astonishingly, the ref reversed his correct decision and allowed the red carded keeper back on the pitch, So the game restarted with 11 v 11. To make matters worse, Pattalung went up the other end and scored a second goal within minutes of this incident. Thank god they didn't equalise!
I can't think why the ref changed his mind. Did the Pattalung players play on his sympathy? The crisis club only had a squad of 12 at the match. Did he feel sorry for them for this reason and, with Korat's blessing, allow the keeper back on? I don't know. Let's hope Korat protest the decision. Not because I want to see the ref punished (I never think that solves anything), but I just want an explanation.
