Deja vu. The fifth draw in a row and the third consecutive 2-2 draw at home.
I was fuming when the starting XI was announced. Again, Moreira started with veteran keeper Narong Wisetsri. I find it almost unbelievable that a head coach who is a former goalkeeper along with his foreign goalkeeping coach have failed to work out what every other soul in the stadium knows: that Prasit is by far and away our best goalkeeper. This isn't hindsight because of what transpired; I've been saying it all season. It's just a ridiculous situation. So when Narong drops a ball that Prasit would catch 100 times out of 100 with his eyes closed then the coach only has himself to blame. Sitting next to him on the bench is a keeper who was our player of the season last year. No place for Marcel either. Easily our best foreign player this season and man of the match in the last home game.
Bizarre formation in the first half. We had a back four with Etoundi sitting just in front, as usual. Pralong at left midfield, Bani and David* in the centre and no one at right midfield. Literally just a big gap where the right midfield should be; I've never seen anything quite like it. In the second half David started to drift to the right a little and right back Wisarut pushed up occasionally.
I thought we were the better side in the first half but we just switched off again in the second half à la Khon Kaen at home. Not having any real width in midfield doesn't help. Finally, in the 80th minute, on comes Valci Junior, plays wide right, and gets in half a dozen crosses in the short time he's on the pitch. This has been another Reuther problem: making changes too late. He should've brought him on in the 60th minute. One thing you can say about the old coach is that he was very positive with his substitutions and it frequently reaped dividends.
The mistake by Narong was embarrassing. It was so bad that fans around me were booing him when he touched the ball after that. Might not sound strange but that's as rare as rocking horse sh1t in Thailand.
The latest is that this coach could be on his way soon, too. It would be a shame, but as I've already said, he's only got himself to blame. I still look at the squad and the tactics and think "it's not rocket science". Start with your best eleven (including Marcel and Prasit), be a bit more attack-minded at home, and three or four of those draws probably would've turned into victories.
* EDIT: I should've made more of David playing. It was his first appearance since 22nd July (Pattalung away, substitute) and his first start since the FA Cup match at Maptaphut on 9th May; therefore, it was his first start under the 'new' coach. He had a good game and he put the ball through for the second goal, but I'd rather see Marcel out there.
