Hope those of you who live in and around Bangkok – wolfman, bkkfootball, srofr – are all ok. We had it here in Korat exactly a year ago, but thankfully have just avoided it this year – although I see Non Sung got it the other day. Hope everyone is safe.

Thanks Stingray06. Have just got back from a week away from the city. Drove east from Bkk, had to go through minor surface flooding near Minburi. Crossing through Prajinburi, saw lots of flooded ricefields looking like lakes, but nothing affecting houses. Was out also in Chumpuang, rivers and paddies very full, but apart from a little water on one road, fortunately no flooding there yet. The bus trip back through Pathum Thani was very sobering though.

So it is possible to pass through Pathum Thani? Do you, or anyone, know the situation on the main road adjacent to Don Muang Airport? Is it under water?

Bus had to take a lot of back roads, although we were headed along Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok till about Klong 6 before turning off - from there on, we spent at least 45 mins in at least a foot of water until we got on the ring road.
In Vipawadee-Rangsit there's been flooding for a couple of weeks - I got out as far as immigration on Chaeng Wattana around Oct 24th, but I heard today the floods have come down Pahonyothin (the other side of Don Muang) as far as Victory Monument

Thanks. As you know, I want to come down for the Australia game on the 15th, but am just trying to get an idea of how much hassle it's going to be to get in to Bangkok. I know there's flooding in areas of Chatuchak now and that it must be starting to threaten Morchit bus station because the manager came out today to say that they don't have plans to close the station yet.

Thinking about it, as it's at Suphachalasai I might as well just get the train. They're not affected as far as I know and the station is very close to the stadium.

I wouldn't risk going to Morchit. The terminal is still open but the surrounding area is flooded. Getting to and from Morchit to Supachalasai would be a nightmare. If you can take the train to Hualamphong then do that. It's a short cab ride from the station to the stadium. In fact you could walk it.

I decided yesterday not to bother with the bus as the situation seems to be getting worse in the Morchit/Chatuchak area, so I looked into the trains yesterday. There's a 'tamada' train at 08:00 getting into BKK at about 15:00, but because of the current situation it will be absolutely seething. I can't face seven hours on a packed tamada train. So the only other viable train would be at ten to one on Tuesday morning arriving in BKK at 08:00. If qualification for the World Cup itself rested on this match, then I might go to that effort, but a train journey through the night just to get to BKK....I think I'm going to have to give it a miss. Edit: I should also add that many of the train services are running terribly late. They do seem to be affected by the flooding. I was checking the 'train tracking system' on the SRT website yesterday and some were as much as three hours late!

I wouldn't recommend travelling to the capital just now unless you're journey is absolutely necessary. I find it hard to believe that the trains can still travel out of northern Bangkok and through the Rangsit area considering these areas are about 1m deep with flood water in places. It also looks doubtful that that the North Bangkok v Korat game will take place in Bangkok. I would have made an effort to go along if it had been played locally. I guess I'll see you at Air Force or Bkk Utd next season if you get promoted.

That's free on December 10th as BBCU are away and Army United are at home on the 11th. North Bangkok of course used it a lot during the regular season. What's the reason for not using Chulalongkorn again? If Suphachalasai is fit to host a World Cup Qualifier it seems strange that Chula can't be used.

The flooding stops about 1km north of the stadium. No idea what's wrong with Chula. It's perfectly dry there. The reason for not playing at Chula could be superstition as they lost their previous game, or it could be that the Chula stadium is hosting some other event and is not available.

Thanks. Sounds like there's a good chance the North Bangkok v Korat match could be in the capital, then. Hope so. It'd be nice to scratch off either the Army Stadium or Chula. Just hope we're still in the race by then!
