Sitngray - liked your piece on Anon. Been a fan of his for a while, & I hope his signing comes off for NRFC this season. Getting goals again will hopefully get him back in the NT frame, though Winnie seems to prefer guys who couldn't the back of the net with a map.

I don't get it really. Certain players like Anon and Sarayoot Chaikamdee often get overlooked no matter how many they score, whereas Kirati....Well, what can you say?! I'm sorry but, "he can hold the ball up" is not a good enough reason for a striker to consistently get national team starts. Ability to score goals should be the over-riding criterion when selecting a striker. Getting a bit off topic here! I might move these last couple of posts to a general national team thread in Anything Else.

Agreed. I'll admit Schaefer obviously knows more about football than I ever will, and lumps like Kirati & Chatree are picked to fit a game plan, but it is galling when he then sits in a press conference, and (like his predecessors) bemoans a lack of a 'killer instinct' in attack. As for 'holding the ball up', I'm sure Kirati does well, but Pipop had more headed shots on goal than him in the last 2 WCQs. Interesting to note that Buriram have sold him, despite feeling he was good enough to train with Leicester 6 months ago.

There could be an element of Germanic caution in his selections; it could also be interpreted as part of the wider trend in international football of greater emphasis on defence and not conceding rather than throwing caution to the wind and playing a more attack-minded game. Although I would argue that selecting players that have a proven track record of scoring goals at various levels (Anon) and in various countries (Sarayoot) isn't exactly throwing caution to the wind!
